Start with a specific reference
Prusa’s published drying guide gives 45°C for six hours for its PLA/rPLA and 55°C for six hours for PETG. Those examples belong to that manufacturer’s guidance. Another blend, brand or reel may require different handling; use its own instructions before selecting equipment or a cycle.
One spool at a time
Compare a complete single-spool unit with a dock-and-box system. The SUNLU S2 is a single-spool option with a 70°C published ceiling. PolyDryer uses power levels and a removable box; its box-only option is not a complete powered dryer. Read each profile’s limits before comparing delivered prices.
Mixed PLA and PETG batches
If your two products specify different temperatures, one shared chamber cannot apply both at once. Dry them sequentially, or investigate independent zones. Enter the larger required capability in the finder to eliminate insufficient equipment, then check both settings and the geometry of each zone in the manual.
Do not diagnose every printing fault as moisture
Record the exact material and printing conditions. If you change several settings and the result improves, you cannot attribute the improvement to drying alone. A before-and-after record with the same test print is more useful than a confident claim based on one failed print.
Budget for the storage handoff
Decide where each spool will go after the instructed cycle. Count the boxes, fittings and storage supplies you actually need. A system that fits that routine can be more practical than a higher-temperature unit whose extra capability your materials do not require.
Do PLA and PETG need the same dryer?
They may be served by the same equipment, but that does not make their drying instructions identical. Start with your exact products. A numeric temperature-controlled dryer can be convenient when you want to enter a documented setpoint; a power-level system requires the maker’s material table. A single-spool model suits sequential work, while larger models become useful when several compatible spools need preparation together.
When a low price is not the complete price
A storage box without its powered dock does not perform the same job as a complete dryer. Compare the delivered price of the equipment you actually need, including regional power supply, any required adapters and storage for finished spools.
